Pyrex Compatibles - Colonial Mist (1983), White Lace (1988)

Colonial Mist Pyrex was introduced late 1983 to complement the Corelle pattern launched earlier that year.  It came onto the market at a time when the variety of opal Pyrex items had been significantly diminished.  The full range can be summed up basically as nesting bowl sets and 470/480 round casseroles.  No Tabletop Ware items were produced either.

The colour scheme, which alternates white on blue and blue on white, seems evocative of the Compatibles sets of the 1970s.  However the white pieces are not just plain opal glass with a pattern; there is actually a white exterior colour applied also, giving a more solidly opaque appearance.

Contradicting the usual colour scheme is the existence of round nesting bowls, in four sizes, all in blue instead of alternating blue and white.  The answer to this probably lies in the fact that each of the bowls in the 400 Series were available for individual sale as well as in sets of three and four.  This option was available throughout the pattern’s lifetime.  It seems that all four sizes sold singly were offered in blue only, whereas the boxed sets included blue 401s & 403s and white 402s & 404s.

A popular pattern with a short lifespan, it was in production until 1986 when it was discontinued along with the bulk of the Pyrex line of opal ware.

Mid-1988, this design took on a new life and a new name with clear Pyrex rimmed nesting bowls.  Although it is absolutely identical to Colonial Mist, it is officially called White Lace when found on clear glass.  The bowls were available in sets of three and four, and individually too.

Corelle Coordinates glassware in White Lace appeared in 1994, long after Colonial Mist Corelle had been discontinued.
