The two year warranty covers crazing, breakage, chips and permanent stains, if the use & care instructions have been followed. To receive a replacement by mail, consumers were required to send 50¢ per item for postage. They were asked to keep the damaged item for a while in case the company wanted it sent back for inspection.
The Continuity Promise states that when a pattern is discontinued, replacement pieces will remain available for two years. Once a pattern is no longer available, the consumer may choose a similar item from current stock. In the early 1970s the duration of this promise was four years, but by 1976 when the first pattern discontinuance occurred, the period had been reduced to two years.
It is emphasized that Corelle is stronger than regular glass or china, but not unbreakable. With a hard knock it can break immediately or sometime after the fact, and shattering into small pieces is a characteristic of all types of break-resistant glass. Corelle cannot be used on the stove-top, under the broiler, or with a microwave browning unit. Although it is oven-safe and heat-proof, extreme thermal shock situations still must be avoided. If a dish is hot from the oven, it should not come into contact with cold liquids or cold surfaces.
References to closed-handle cups, creamers and sugar bowls pertain to those made of Centura. At the time the box was printed, that was the main material used for closed-handle items. The instructions warn against using these pieces in the microwave, and there is an additional caution for closed-handle creamers. Their spouts are treated with a coating "for better pouring characteristics", and powdered cleansers will ruin the finish.
