1979 - Pyrex Mugs (flared)
(9 oz) Available Patterns: Holly Days, Citrus, Almond, Cinnamon, Slate, Heather, Cobalt, Onyx.
Flared mugs made of Pyrex: Slate, Cobalt, Cinnamon, Holly Days.
In Pyrex, this shape was used for only a few patterns. It was first seen with the launch of the Dimension IV product line in 1979. For patterns like Citrus, Almond, Slate, etc., the decoration of the mugs is simply a solid colour which matches one of the coloured bands on the plates. Holly Days is the only example that is patterned.
Starting in 1986, this shape made the transition to Suprema glass-ceramic which is always branded as "Corning". This might cause confusion because these mugs in Pyrex can be marked with "Corning", or even "Corelle". But a mug made of Pyrex always states "No Stovetop or Broiler" no matter which brand name it happens to be carrying.
(Photo: Two of three possible backstamps on Pyrex flared mugs.)
One backstamp reads "PYREX … Microwave Safe … No Stovetop or Broiler … Corning NY USA". Another stamp says "CORNING … Corning NY USA … Microwave Safe … No Stovetop or Broiler". The third backstamp (not pictured) reads "Corelle by Corning ... Corning, N.Y., U.S.A ... Not for Broiler or Stovetop Use". It is not clear which markings are older or newer.
Although the backstamp does not mention it, this shape does have a model number: 3610.
Creamers & Sugar Bowls:
The Traditions line and the Sunrise Collection included creamers that were the same size and shape as this type of Pyrex mug. Dimension IV did not include cream & sugar sets.
