Suprema BackstampIn 1986 this style of mug, made of Suprema glass-ceramic, replaced opal Pyrex cups in the Livingware line.  These mugs are the same shape as the Pyrex flared mugs from 1979, but in Suprema, they are noticeably thinner.  This new material also has a very slight translucency which is comparable to Vitrelle, and holding it up to a bright light is an excellent way to distinguish Suprema from real Corning Ware or Centura.  Suprema BackstampLight does not pass easily through the latter two materials; they are densely opaque.

Flared mugs made of Suprema have two possible backstamps.  One is ‘Corning USA ...  M'wave OK’ and the other is ‘Corning USA ...  Microwave Safe’.  The stamps are in embossed letters, but are quite different than the Pyrex markings.  The Suprema stamps say very little and the lettering is quite a bit larger and often feels slightly rough.

Although the backstamp does not mention it, this shape does have a model number: 111.

Beige Suprema Mugs: Forever Yours, First Of Spring, English Breakfast.

Initially, Suprema glass-ceramic was made only in white, but it appears that a beige version was available from 1991 onward.  Mugs of this composition were still in production in 1998, but they seem to have been replaced in 1999 by a completely different stoneware style in solid colours.  It is possible to find newer stoneware mugs in this general shape as well.  The handle is slightly different though and they are clearly marked as stoneware on the bottom with an ink backstamp.

There are no creamers or sugar bowls corresponding with this cup style.
