In 1986 this style of mug, made of Suprema glass-ceramic, replaced opal Pyrex round-bottom cups in the Livingware line.  They are the same shape as Dimension IV's Pyrex flared mugs from 1979, but in Suprema, they are noticeably thinner.

This new material also has a translucency that is comparable to Vitrelle, and holding it up to a bright light is an excellent way to distinguish Suprema from real Corning Ware or Centura.  The latter two materials are densely opaque, and light does not pass through them easily. Two of three possible Suprema flared mug backstamps

Flared mugs made of Suprema have three possible backstamps.  One says: "CORNING USA ...  M'wave OK" and another says "CORNING USA ...  Microwave Safe".  Of these two it is not clear which is older or newer, but the third backstamp (not pictured) is certainly newer than the first two.  It reads simply: "CORNING ... Made in USA".

All backstamps are printed with embossed letters, but they are distinctly different from Pyrex markings.  Suprema stamps say very little, with larger lettering that is low on the surface and often feels slightly rough.

Although the backstamp does not mention it, this shape does have a model number: 111.

Initially, Suprema glass-ceramic was made only in white, but a beige version became available about 1991.  Mugs of this composition were still in production in 1998, but by 1999, they were replaced by a completely different stoneware shape in solid colours.

It is possible to find newer stoneware mugs with a flared shape too.  The handle is slightly different though and they are clearly marked as stoneware on the bottom with an ink backstamp.

There are no creamers or sugar bowls corresponding with this cup style.
