Electromatic Percolators: Automatic & See-Thru
Four unusual electric percolators were introduced in 1973. They have solid-coloured bases, handles and spouts, and they came in 8 cup and 12 cup sizes. Each model has a different style and shape. The Red and Green See-Thru percolators have clear Pyrex bowls, while the bowls of the Yellow and Blue Automatic percolators are Corning Ware. The spouts, lids and handles are plastic. All four are thermostatically controlled to maintain the perfect serving temperature once brewing is finished.
The images are from a 1973 brochure:
Automatic Percolators: Yellow E-1208 (8 cup) and Blue E-1212 (12 cup). The photos include White Narrow Rim Centura Tableware.
The E-1212 Corning Ware model also was available in Spice O' Life, with a green spout, lid, handle and base. Apart from that, the size and colour choices were limited; i.e.: the E-1108 is always red, the E-1208 is always yellow, etc.
See-Thru Percolators: Green E-1112 (12 cup) and Red E-1108 (8 cup). The Red model is undecorated.
Text from brochure. The Pyrex percolators are less expensive, but they have the same automatic features as the Corning Ware ones.
The list of replacement parts demonstrates how the percolators can be disassembled. The handle is connected to the base with a screw. The plastic collar appears to be permanently attached to the bowl.
The bowl lifts out of the electric base for washing, since the base is not waterproof. The bowls of all four models have a hole in the bottom which fits around the heating element protruding from the base. The pot must be emptied before it can be taken apart.
This percolator concept is completely different from that of chrome spout percolators, and these four models were not recalled. See-Thru and Automatic Percolators were manufactured until late 1976 or early 1977.
