Pattern Profile:
Blue Floral, Calico Rose, Lace Bouquet, Windflower (1985)

The first product line to include the new wider rimmed plate style, Natural Images debuted during mid 1985 with Blue Floral, Calico Rose, Lace Bouquet and Windflower, among others.  They are the second group of patterns to use a beige background.  All but Windflower are decorated in the centre of the plate as well as on the rim.  Blue Floral is a traditional blue onion motif, similar to Old Town Blue.

Calico Rose cup, dinner plate; Windflower dinner plate, bowl.  The cup is made of Suprema glass-ceramic.  The bowl's grey-blue band does not match Windflower's pale green exactly, but it is correct.  It also matches Lace Bouquet.

At the introduction of Natural Images, 16 piece sets and 35 piece sets were offered.  Both included mugs, and the larger set contained eight place settings plus two 1 Qt serving bowls and one platter.  One year later, the 16 piece set was replaced by a 20 piece set with cups & saucers.

Cups & mugs were made of stoneware at that time.  Stoneware mugs have a straight-sided shape and are decorated only with a coloured band at the rim.  Cups are patterned and they adopted the Design Images cup style which had appeared in early 1986.  For Lace Bouquet and Calico Rose this shape transitioned to Suprema glass-ceramic in the early 1990s, and Lace Bouquet also came with straight-sided mugs made of Suprema.

Bowls, saucers and platters are decorated only with a coloured band.  One catalogue lists these items for Lace Bouquet and Windflower as the same item, with a grey-blue band.  When Windflower's pattern is mainly pale green, bowls decorated with light blue might not seem like a perfect match, but apparently it is the correct match.

Of this group, Lace Bouquet was available the longest, being discontinued January 1995.  The final year for Calico Rose might be 1992, but Blue Floral and Windflower were dropped sometime between 1987 and 1992; exact dates are not known.
