Pattern Profile:
Iris, Summer Mist (1984), Spring Pond (1985)

Iris and Summer Mist were the newest additions to the CornerStone Collection in 1984, and they would be joined by Spring Pond mid-1985.  The multi-coloured designs adorn the centre of the plate, and coloured bands appear on the rims.  Bowls and saucers are decorated only with coloured bands, and Iris and Summer Mist share the same sage green banded pieces.  Spring Pond has three bands: green, pink and white.

The unique rolled rim style of the plates is echoed in the soup/cereal bowls and saucers, and for these three patterns, even platters and serving bowls have CornerStone rims.  Eventually platters and serving bowls would move to the ordinary coupe shape for all CornerStone patterns, and this is true for Spring Pond.  These coupe pieces might have been made for Summer Mist too.

CornerStone Iris; from 1985 brochureInitially the sets came with Centura cups, and stoneware cups also exist, but they are less likely for Iris.  Suprema cups are possible for Spring Pond, but this point is unknown for Summer Mist.  The first style of cream & sugar set was made of Centura with a beige plastic flat-top sugar lid.  After 1986 this was replaced by a stoneware set, and this sugar lid is stoneware with a tall knob.

Iris was discontinued mid-1986.  Of these three patterns, Spring Pond was available the longest, and 1992 appears to be its final year of production.  Summer Mist was dropped earlier, sometime between 1987 and 1992, but an exact ending date is not known.
