Pattern Profile: Sedgemoor (1981)

A floral design in a chocolate brown shade, this pattern was produced exclusively for the UK market in 1981.  Corelle had not been available there, and at least six patterns were launched at that time.  Aside from Sedgemoor, the other patterns were familiar designs from the North American market, although some of those were given new names.

In the end, Corelle failed to catch on in Britain and there are two possible reasons: the aversion to the hook-handled cup, and the expensive price tag.  Factoring into the retail price was the cost of transportation, plus a decision had been taken to market Corelle in the UK as an upscale brand at a higher price point.

It is not known exactly how long Sedgemoor was available, but it does appear to be extremely short-lived, perhaps one year or so.  No matching Pyrex ovenware, nesting bowls or Tabletop Ware was produced either.  Detail is lacking on available Corelle pieces, and the following list includes only confirmed sightings; there may be more.
