Old Town Blue is a Livingware pattern from 1972, with a white background and coupe plate style. Blue Floral debuted in the Natural Images product line in 1985, and it is beige-bodied with a standard rimmed plate style.
They use two different shades of dark blue.
Both Corelle patterns are based on the traditional Blue Onion pattern, originally conceived centuries ago by Meissen of Germany. Numerous other manufacturers have followed with their own "Zwiebelmuster" since then.
A typical blue onion pattern. This one is called Blue Nordic by J. & G. Meakin, an English maker. On the rim are peaches and pomegranates, or "onions".
Meissen's Blue Onion was inspired by an Asian design that depicted pomegranates. To Europeans at the time, this was an unfamiliar fruit and they were mistaken for onions. Other motifs in the original Blue Onion pattern are bamboo stalks, lotus flowers, chrysanthemums and peaches. Pomegranates and peaches are not part of Old Town Blue or Blue Floral.
