Floral Bouquet Corning Ware:
Comparing Wrap-Around & Central Patterns

Although it might be stated elsewhere that Floral Bouquet Corning Ware was introduced in 1971, it actually made its first appearance in late 1969.  With a vivid yellow background, the all-over wrap-around pattern was created by artist Robert Gibson, and this design applied for registration under patent law in that year.  Advertisements and reports from housewares trade shows first mentioned this version of Floral Bouquet in late 1969, and again during 1970.

Square Corning Ware casseroles with this pattern were part of a "limited edition gift line, just in time for Christmas" in 1969.  Royal Buffet candle-warmer cradles were provided with 1¾ Qt & 2½ Qt sizes.  A 9 cup percolator was also offered at that time, but it did not have an all-over yellow pattern.  Other square sizes with a wrap-around decoration are 1 Qt & 1½ Qt casseroles, and a 10 inch skillet.

Another design was filed with the patent office in 1971.  The work of Patricia Luzier and Gregory Mirow, this one is the more familiar simplified version of the pattern, printed only on the front of the casserole.  With this decoration and a full selection of shapes and sizes, Floral Bouquet transitioned from a special gift collection to a comprehensive standard product line in 1971.

1971 also would see a special muted variation of the wrap-around pattern on 1½ Qt, 1¾ Qt & 2½ Qt square sizes.  Each were paired with either a Royal Buffet candle-warmer or a plastic woodgrain trivet, plus an unusual Pyrex lid that has a white ceramic knob threaded onto it.

The yellow background has a woven appearance, like linen, not solid yellow as usual.  Floral Bouquet normally has blue accents, but this unique variation has no blue at all.  This type of set with a ceramic knob also could be purchased in solid Avocado or Butterscotch.

Since both of Floral Bouquet's wrap-around patterns were manufactured before 1972, square Corning Ware casseroles with these decorations always have smaller tab handles.  The standard Floral Bouquet pattern was in production before and after 1972, so it can be found with small tab handles as well as with newer wide tab handles.
