Blue 401s: Comparing Original & New Multi-Colour Bowls

The original multi-colour bowl set appeared in 1945 and was available for about 23 years.  It was replaced by a new multi-colour set in 1968, and this set was offered for about nine years.  Both sets have a blue 401, but the new blue is darker and much more intense than the colour of a typical blue 401.  The new colour is probably best described as electric blue.

It is true that even in the original 400 set the exact shade of blue became darker as time progressed, but it is still distinct from the striking blue colour found in the new set.
