Corning Ware Profile: Fast Food Dishes

Microwave ovens became popular in the 1970s, and Corning responded with new Corning Ware items optimally designed for this new cooking method.  Fast Food Dishes were introduced in 1978, and were intended to be just the right size and shape for heating frozen pre-packaged food.  They were discontinued in the early 1980s.

Style-wise they are similar to an A-series roaster, but smaller and with little feet.  The clear Pyrex lids made to match have an array of dimples on the top.  Fast Food Dishes came in two sizes:  MC-1 (7 x 5½"), and MC-2 (10½ x 6¾").  There were three patterns available:  White, Wildflower, Spice O' Life.

Although they were made with microwave use in mind, Fast Food Dishes are not browning skillets, so they can be used in the oven too.  But with an oblong shape and feet on the bottom, they are unsuited to the stovetop.
